New Interactive Health Tools

This release includes new Interactive Health Tools. These tools allow people to receive tailored health information by entering their personal data. For example, people can assess their risk for a heart attack, learn what contributes to their stress, calculate the calories they will burn during a particular activity, or assess whether they are ready for behavior change.

Links to these interactive health tools appear throughout relevant topics and in the Health Tools section of these topics.

The following is a list of the interactive tools appearing in this release:

  • Should I Consider Surgery for My Low Back Problem?Click here to see an interactive tool.: The introduction to this tool now has an expanded of list of problems that should cause a person to talk to a doctor, rather than using the tool. These include fever for 2 days or more; a serious injury, accident, or fall; and a history of spinal stenosis or cancer. The tool also notes that in most cases a person with back pain does not have a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) test until he or she has had symptoms for at least 4 weeks, and that usually surgery is not considered until after the MRI.

Future Healthwise Knowledgebase releases will include additional interactive health tools.
